How to Make a Friendship Bracelet

Friendship bracelets are more than just string — they’re a symbol of kindness, sharing, and love. February is the perfect month to make one for a friend, sibling, parent, or even yourself! Follow these easy steps and create something special with your own two hands.

What You’ll Need

3–6 strings of embroidery floss or yarn (any colors you love!)

Scissors

Tape or a safety pin

A flat surface (table, desk, or clipboard)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Choose Your Colors

Pick colors that remind you of friendship — pinks, reds, purples, or your friend’s favorite colors!

Cut the Strings

Ask a grown-up to help you cut each string about 24 inches long (about the length from your hand to your shoulder).

Tie the Top

Hold all the strings together and tie a knot at the top, leaving about 1–2 inches above the knot.

Secure Your Bracelet

Tape the knot to a table or pin it to your pants or a pillow so it doesn’t move while you work.

Start Braiding

Separate the strings into three groups. Cross the right group over the middle, then cross the left group over the new middle. Keep repeating until you reach the end.

Tie the Bottom

When you’re done braiding, tie another knot at the bottom so it doesn’t come undone.

Share the Love

Tie it around your friend’s wrist and make a wish together — or gift it with a note that says, 'I made this just for you!'
